Emergency Broadcast
Emergency Broadcast
Acrylic and rhinestones on gesso board
16 x 22 inches
2013

As a child, the visual blankness of the emergency broadcast screen, coupled with the irritating staccato of beeps, always brought me anxiety. The image of this screen is forever associated in my memory with tornado warnings, hurricane warnings, and, more recently, September 11. I want to take objects that trigger my anxiety and make them beautiful. By rendering them in attractive materials, I attempt to gain some control over the “thing” that is producing my anxiety.
